"Iota has a full night of Americana music planned for Thursday August 10 with three great acts. Local rock legend Alex Parez, who is frequent at Iota, will play with his band The Hell Rojos bringing acoustic rock and old-time country. Joining them are the alt-country and Americana band from DC area The Walkways. Headlining the night is the "bourbon infused Americana" sounds from the husband and wife band The Crooked Angels. Cover is $10 and doors open at 7:30pm with music usually starting around 9pm."

"On Monday April 17 you can catch Alex The Red Parez and The Hell Rojos will be headlining at Galaxy Hut for their 4th Annual Earth Day Show. Alex Parez is one of the most active players in the local Clarendon music scene, with Alex hosting Iota's open mic night every Wed, manning the door at Iota, and playing frequently in the area. Also playing that night will be Sunchild. Music starts at 8:30pm with the usual $5 cover." - Bill Ryan, Clarendon Nights Blog

“Last Thursday night Iota hosted its second Haiti Relief Benefit. The line-up advertised was "The Torches with Adrian Hardkor, Wes Tucker, Alex the Red Parez, and more." Unfortunately the extensive trek across the Potomac caused me to miss the first two acts - Adrian Hardkor and Alex the Red Parez. Those who managed to get to the show before me were able to hear both of the acoustic acts and said they enjoyed them. Both bands play tons of shows in the DC metro area so if you missed them on Thursday you can catch them again in the coming weeks. Hats off to all the bands for playing quality music to help Haiti and making it worth the trip out of DC for the evening.” - Kris, The Vinyl District

“Alex the Red at Solly's: "Next we get a jam session submission featuring sights and song. Singer songwriter Alex the Red Parez aka El Rojo says a great crowd came out for a show at Solly's on U street. It's a great example of the community supporting our local artists.” - Angie Goff, WUSA9.com

“Alex "the Red" Robert Parez is an acoustic performer who sounds like Nick Cave reinterpreting the early songbook of Bill Callahan (Smog).” -  The Big Easy, MetroMusicScene.com

“Also deserving a bigger audience was local singer-songwriter Alex the Red Robert Parez, armed only with his voice and a guitar. His interpretation of Americana was a sort of loungey take, and his voice was reminiscent of Johnny Cash, though often sung with Jello Biafra's inflection. And he betrayed an affection for Bruce Springsteen, closing his set with a couple of Boss covers, "because I've been listening to him a lot lately." Check him out Wednesdays in August at Polly's Cafe.” - Matthew Stabley, nbcwashington.com

Featured at 10:00pm: A Shrewdness of Apes!

Ian Mabley - guitar, vocals Chris Sciotto - bass, vocals

"A Shrewdness of Apes started off with the collaboration of Ian Mabley and Dave Greek as an acoustic duo in late 2012. With the incorporation of their first drummer, Cesar Cotrina, in mid-2013, they named themselves after the collective noun for monkeys, which they thought represented their intricate, melodic yet heavy style.

With a cycling array of drummers, they released their first EP (Alpha) in March 2014. Ian moved to DC in October 2014 during the production of the band's second EP (Beta) and released it in January 2015. Sumeet Mahal, Ian's longtime friend, was recruited to play bass later that year. The band existed as a duo acoustic group until they recruited Jared Coffin to play drums in February 2017.

Their first full-length album was recorded in Fall 2018. Jared left the band that winter, claiming that his music tastes were changing and no longer aligned with A Shrewdness of Apes's sound. Sumeet was also replaced by Chris Sciotto in early 2019.

The full-length album is expected to be released in May 2019."
