"Brent Funkhouser is building a reputation for beautiful songs in the Americana tradition; his work is often compared to Tyler Childers and Gordon Lightfoot, with a vocal delivery that recalls that of Jason Isbell. Hailing from an underrepresented niche in the American landscape, the Shenandoah Valley, Funkhouser is rapidly expanding his audience while developing his catalogue. Shooting A Horse (2018), his 4th release, presents fresh material to the Americana music scene that is observant, romantic, and at times political, delivered in a style that showcases his multi-instrumentalism; he sings and plays guitar, but also C6 lap steel, 5- string banjo, keyboards, bass, harmonica, alto saxophone and accordion.
He has shared stages with award-winning country singer-songwriter Phil Vassar, Jounce (Danny Tamberelli), John-Robert, Lilac War, Rob Cheathem, Delaplane, Little River Creek Police, UK-‐based folk duo Ophelia, Morgan Dean, Ben Kunkle, Matthew Mozingo, Halen Sykes, Mike Mangum, the Walnut Ridge Boys, and many other acts. He is a member of BMI, the Americana Music Association, and the Songwriters Association of Washington.
Brent performs at some of Americana's finest festivals and in some of its better rooms. He’s played at the Edinburg Ole Time Festival, Dayton Redbud Festival, and the Cyclovia Earth-‐Day festival, as well as having done charity work for Relay for Life and other events. He’s toured throughout Virigina, eastern Tennessee and across South Carolina, Northern Virginia, and North Carolina’s triangle area."
